Most folks from North America don’t give the Netherlands much of a thought as an overseas golf destination, which is not surprising given its understated nature and its location being tucked away from many of the famed British Isles links. I was fortunate enough to spend five days there two years ago to experience seven of the best courses the country has to offer. It was time well spent.

Golf in the Netherlands is unique and strong; much like the country itself and its culture. There is an impressive pedigree and variety of courses; many sections of the countryside are blessed with rolling terrain and sandy soil (which is ideal for building top courses). It was amazing to see how much virgin links and dunes land still exist, although likely never to be developed due to environmental concerns and interests.
